Service Setup

Feb 24, 2014 at 9:24 PM
I would love to get this to work but I have run into a dead end and was hoping someone could help me. Here is a quick overview of what I have:

SQL 2008 R2 Server - SERVER-ONE
Collector Host Name - HOSTONE
SQL Administrator - DOMAIN\ADMIN

I have created the DB and tables and installed the admin app on the SERVER-ONE

I have copied over the EventReaper.exe to the default location on HOSTONE

I installed the service using the following parameters:

eventreaper.exe -install "HOSTONE" "Event Reaper - HOSTONE"

Here is where I get stuck. I try to configure the EventReaper.exe.config file as follows:

        <setting name="HOSTONE" serializeAs="String">
        <setting name="SERVER-ONE" serializeAs="String">
        <setting name="Database" serializeAs="String">
I start the service and it fails with:

This service HOSTONE encountered a first chance exception!
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection, Action`1 wrapCloseInAction)
There are no context policies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Ok, first off, why did you change the setting name? (not talking about the value) It should look like this:

< setting name="CollectorName" serializeAs="String" >
< value>HOSTONE</value>
< /setting>
< setting name="SQLServer" serializeAs="String">
< value>SERVER-ONE</value>
< /setting>
< setting name="Database" serializeAs="String">
< value>EventScavenger5</value>
< /setting >

Secondly, the 'CollectorName' setting does not really get used anymore - that is what the '-install "HOSTONE" "Event Reaper - HOSTONE" ' is for.

Hope that helps :)
